Catholic Parishes to Pray for Closing of Abortuaries

There are only about 700 abortion mills left in the United States, and Priests for
Life has now matched them up with the approximately 17,000 Catholic parishes
on our database. The mission for each parish: pray for the closing of that mill.

Priests for Life has prepared a special prayer that can be recited publicly and
privately in the parishes for this purpose (see below). We also urge the priests,
deacons, catechists, and other pastoral ministers to come up with creative ways
to assist their people to pray for this intention.

Taking the step of matching the parishes to the mills makes our prayer to end
abortion much more concrete and specific. It drives home the point that the killing
of children is taking place in specific places, at specifically scheduled times. In
some cases, these places are within one's own parish boundaries -- an important
fact, given the pastoral responsibility that priests and bishops have for all those
within their parish or diocese.

Parishes will be able to find out what abortion mill has been matched to them by
visiting our website, www.priestsforlife.org/mills. They will also be informed of the
good news of the closing of those mills. Our Lord told us that the gates of hell will
not prevail against the Church. It is the Church that takes the initiative, storming
the gates of sin with the power of grace, the gates of falsehood with the power of
truth, and the gates of death with the power of life. And the gates will not stand.

Prayer for the closing of the abortion mill:

Father, all life is in Your care.
You have entrusted us to one another,
that we may show our brothers and sisters
the same love You have for us.
We pray, then, for the least among us,
the children in the womb.
Protect them from the violence of abortion.
We pray for those that are scheduled to die at (Name the abortion mill assigned
to you).
Save them from death.
Give new hope to their parents,
that they may turn away from the desperate act of abortion.
Grant conversion to the abortionist and to the staff.
Show us how we are to respond to the bloodshed in our midst,
And lead us to the day when this place of death
Will be transformed into a haven of life.
Guard us with your joy and your peace,
For in You, life is victorious.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
