ANNAN APPROVES
UNPRECEDENTED UN PUBLICATION OF NGO ANTI-VATICAN DOCUMENT
Front Organization for Powerful US Anti-Catholic Foundations Strikes Again
UNITED NATIONS, April 2, 2002 (LSN.ca) - In anticipation of the United Nations Commission on Population and Development (CPD) meeting being held this week in New York, the UN published a Catholic bashing document by Catholics for a Free Choice (CFFC). LifeSite obtained a copy of an official UN Economic and Social Council (ESC) release of the CFFC statement which notes the CFFC is a "non-governmental organization (NGO) in special consultative status" with the ESC.
The release says the "Secretary-General has received" the statement and circulated it. The dissemination of the document is unprecedented, according to UN insiders who spoke with LifeSite, in that it allows an NGO to directly attack a state with status at the UN. The document also contains falsehoods which misrepresent the Catholic faith.
The document published February 20 states repeats the CFFC poster campaign accusations that the Catholic Church's teachings against artificial contraception and condoms specifically "condemn ... [people] to death." The document claims a majority of Catholics support contraception and abortion.
The document says falsely that "The Holy See's 'prohibition' on abortion and contraception and the use of condoms ... is not subject to papal infallibility and Catholics are free to disagree with these institutional positions." In fact, Catholic teaching notes that when the pope speaks on matters of faith and morals, which obviously include teachings on abortion and contraception, he is infallible.
The front organization for powerful U.S. anti-Catholic
foundations recommends the CPD "provide data on the effect that denying
information about and provision of condoms to prevent HIV/AIDS has on
contributing to the spread of the disease." Mark DeYoung, Director of the North
American Region of the World Youth Alliance, told LifeSite the CFFC
recommendation is made in order to exploit a known issue of contention between
UN leaders and the Holy See. "It is a ploy to intimidate the Holy See and to
encourage member countries to oppose the Holy See on these issues," he said.
